If you know me, saying that afternoon tea is one of my favourite treats will hardly come as a surprise… But last weekend, afternoon tea at Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square reminded me exactly why I love it so much. Especially as this new Four Seasons has only just opened, and I was so excited to visit it along with a fellow hotel-addict, Angie!
Afternoon tea is served in The Rotunda, which is one of the most beautiful restaurants or tea lounges I’ve ever seen. With warm toned chairs, sofas and carpets all offset with neutral toned walls and, frankly, the most stunning ceiling, visiting just to see the room is possibly enough.
We toasted our visit with glasses of slightly sweet Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires, the perfect bubbles for our chocolate delights!
The hotel used to be The Port of London Authority, and as soon as you step into the hotel, you can feel the naval history all around. Make sure you have a look at the stunning bespoke china for the intricate map details which carry on the maritime history.
There’s a little twist to this tea… Everything, and I mean everything, has a touch of chocolate!
The sandwich platter also happens to win the prize for the most beautiful in London. For me, it was hard to choose between the roast beef with granny smith compote and the smoked salmon with smoked salmon rillette and lime mayonnaise as a favourite….
But I think the little chocolate nibs on top of the roast beef might just have tipped it over the edge!
Next on our sandwich platter was the foie gras terrine with dulcey chocolate and rum gel on pumpernickel. I loved the smooth texture of the foie gras and the inventive and delicate rum gel.
The goats cheese mousse with espelette coulis and bitter chocolate powder on cereal toast, in the centre of the plate, was more than just pretty, but a savoury delight.
When it came to the sweet tray, I was in absolute chocolate induced heaven. As a complete chocoholic, I was so excited for this course and I think you can see why…
Executive Chef Benjamin Brial and Executive Pastry Chef Sylvain Nicolas really have outdone themselves with this plate, because every single patiserrie was incredible. A faavourite at our table was the choux bun with tonka mouselline made with 70% Guanaja chocolate; light pastry and a perfect mouselline made it a real highlight.
A raspberry and candied ginger chocolate tart added more than a splash of colour, with its rich chocolate taste and smooth texture… I’m not a matcha fan, so I didn’t try the matcha and orange macaron but I can tell you, it’s a showstopper on this plate!
Anyone close to me will tell you, if you ask me if I want a chocolate bar, the answer is a Snickers. Every. Single. Time. So you can only imagine the delight when I saw a luxury Snickers on our plate! A caramel crunch with chocolate chantilly… Yes, please!
If you’re thinking that the scone course has avoded the chocolate treatment, you’d be mistaken! With chocolate in the scones, cocoa powder on top and served with a hazelnut spread, you may just turn into a chocolate after these!
And what a special treat they are – make sure you save some room for these scones or you’re going to regret it when you get home!
The Royal Afternoon Tea comes with a slice of the cake of the day, which when we were visiting was the most beautiful cheesecake served with fruit and the iconic Four Seasons chocolate on top. Service at Four Seasons at Ten Trinity is some of the best I’ve experienced, and with the warmth that you only find at Four Seasons hotels, it’s service you won’t forget.
At the end of your tea, sip on peppermint tea to help digest all of those incredible treats! There’s not one thing that’s been forgotten in this tea…
We asked to have a sneak peek at the rest of the hotel, popped our heads into La Dame du Pic (a restaurant which is at the top of my must visit list as Anne Sophie Pic holds an impressive 3 Michelin Stars), oggled at this breath-taking bar… I’m coming back for dinner and cocktails next time!
Just look at how beautiful it all is…
Every time I leave a Four Seasons hotel I always think I leave a little piece of myself there, fall a little more for the brand and want to book another stay, and another afternoon tea! The chocolate Easter Afternoon Tea is available until the 23rd, so make your bookings quickly!
Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square, well, that’s around for a bit longer, so you’ll be able to pop in for champagne at the bar, celebrations at La Dame du Pic, and what I imagine would be the ultimate staycation in one of the 100 rooms.
