A Fiery Lunch at Benihana

It seems I’ve been on quite the Open Table tour of London recently, as even before I’d visited Sake no Hana for their taster menu, I paid a visit to Benihana, Piccadilly with Mihiqua for a girly catch up.

I’ve wanted to try Benihana for a long time, as I’ve heard such good things about it, so it was a visit that had a lot riding on it!

We started with Onion Soup a la Japonese, which was flavoursome, though I did much prefer the miso soup at Sake no Hana.

We couldn’t resist ordering a side dish of Prawn tempura, which were frankly exquisite. Beautiful, light batter wrapped around a plump prawn: perfection.

One of the reasons Benihana is so popular is that your meals are cooked in front of you by some of the most talented chefs, who also double up as entertainers with their knife throwing delights!

We had a selection of chicken, prawn and beef to share between us, along with some vegetables to keep us healthy.
The show the chef put up for us was entirely captivating – we couldn’t keep our eyes off of him!

And then before our very eyes, the lights were dimmed and this happened…

It was quite a sight to behold!

Our lovely chef plated our dishes up and said goodbye and left us to enjoy our meal. The service really was phenomenal, our waiter never let our wine glasses empty and noting that I was snapping away, our chef made sure to warn me before anything fiery was going to happen!

It really was a treat of a lunch.

Who am I to say no to a sweet? Upon seeing that our menu included chocolate ice cream I was very happy as it’ one of my favourites – I know, I’m a kid at heart.

The restaurant was fantastic and the experience was even better, but I’m not convinced that it was a great set menu. Having said that, it served its purpose for me as I wanted to try the restaurant before parting with a lot of money for the experience. I’ll definitely be back, and I know a certain other-half who would really enjoy coming with me!

Not quite ready to part ways we headed round to Social Eating House’s pub, The Bling Pig (sister restaurant to Social Wine and Tapas, an absolute gem of a restaurant in Marlyebone) to meet Katie from Kalanchoe for a tipple or two!

It’s always nice being able to taken in your surroundings at the bar of a restaurant. I loved the atmosphere and the interior design; in fact, it’s another restaurant on my never ending list that I want to visit.

I hadn’t met Katie before but it was so nice to finally meet her in real life and talk about all things Exeter and London.

It’s always a delight to catch up with Mihiqua, in fact, I think we’re due another one which means even more foodie delights (and probably a few glasses of wine to match!)
