Healthy Eating at Cocotte Rotisserie

Cocotte Rotisserie is a gorgeous little restaurant that has just popped up (not in the pop up sense of the word, don’t panic this gem is here to stay) in beautiful Notting Hill. A breath of fresh air in one of London’s most beautiful areas, this is ne restaurant that you want to know about!

The restaurant itself is beautiful; it reminded me of being back in Francewith a light, airy feel, decorated with wood paneling and homely touches such as soft cushions. It’s certainly a very laid back restaurant which allows the food itself to shine; a vibe that I really loved.

As you might have guessed from the name, Cocotte Rotisserie is a rotisserie chicken restaurant; but it’s also so much more than that. All the chickens are marinaded in a special, secret marinade that gives the meat the most wonderful flavour. Add to that the fact that the majority of the dishes are very healthy and you’re pretty set for a great meal.

The restaurant is owned and run by French-born Romain Bourrillon, a talented chef who grew up in Provence before attending Ferrandi, one of the most prestigious cooking schools in France, where he studied for a chef degree programme.

Between two of us we ordered a half chicken to share and selected a few of the dips to go with it. The chicken itself was perfectly cooked; the meat was tender, juicy and bursting full of flavour. I’m not sure what’s in that marinade but it’s incredible!

As Gee and I were particularly hungry that evening we were worried that a half chicken might not be enough for us, but with a few salads and sides it was the perfect amount.

The dips, too, were great. I particularly loved the pesto, a slightly different take on the classic pesto, this dip had hints of lots of different herbs which gave it a lovely fresh, zingy taste.

Gee, a big fan of truffle (show me a gal who isn’t!) said her favourite was the truffle mayo. We also enjoyed the BBQ and spicy sauces, but they weren’t quite as epic as the first two.

One really great thing about this menu is that a lot of it is very friendly for people with dietary requirements; Gee can’t eat much gluten and was pleased to see that she could order pretty much everything on the menu.

The salads, which we had as side orders, were delicious. Our favourite was the raymonde, a quinoa and bulgar based salad served with yellow pepper, cherry tomatoes, peas and dried grapes and topped with radishes. The flavours in this dish were great and it was a dish that could never be accused of being a boring side salad!

Our second salad brought a burst of colour to the table! The juliette salad composed of carrot, celery, red onions, red pepper and topped with parsley, coriander, chives, sesame and nuts was as vibrant in taste as it was colour. Both being big fans of sesame seeds and oil this dish went down a treat.

We’d been so good that I decided we could allow ourselves a little treat and ordered the mac and cheese. A beautiful crispy top, oozing with cheese and baked to perfection, I loved every aspect of this side.

Who can say no to this beauty? Mmmhmmmm didn’t think so!

If you’re not able to sit down for a full meal (or don’t want to cook!) Cocotte is available for takeaways as well which might be a liittttle too handy if you live nearby!

Somehow we still had a little room for dessert and ordered the date and coconut cake and mochi to share. I wasn’t sure I was going to love the cake but I was pleasantly surprised. The texture was great, especially the contrast between the biscuit-y crunch and the soft dates and coconut.

I’d never had mochi before but it’s safe to say I’m a convert now; little balls of flavoured ice cream with a lightly coated outer – these were pretty damn good if you ask me.

Though I have slightly sensitive teeth so I’m sure it was more than a little amusing to watch me eat these!

We had a wonderful evening at Cocotte Rotisserie and I haven’t stopped raving about their dishes since I’ve been; in fact, I think it’s only a matter of time before I go back!

Our meal was complimentary.
