There’s nothing like arriving in a beautiful hotel that will make you forget a 12 hour flight, and as soon as we hopped out the taxi and had the doors to COMO Metropolitan Bangkok opened for us, I felt an instant sense of calm and happiness. Like all the cares in the world had disappeared and that the holiday had truly started!
We arrived to our taxi door being opened, our luggage whisked away by friendly porters and to someone opening the door into a beautiful bright lobby.
After a rather warm trip in from the airport glasses of refreshing juice and a cold towel helped to wipe the long journey away.
After a very quick and easy check in, we were taken to our room. On the way up we were asked what it was we were interested in – food and a swim were the very definite replies! – and we were guided as to what facilities at the hotel might be best for us. But first, our beautiful Metropolitan room! The Metropolitan rooms at COMO Bangkok are some of the largest in the city and provide more than enough space to relax, unpack and still have room to sit and enjoy a glass of champagne at the end of the day.
COMO Metropolitan Bangkok is a design hotel, so expect every element of this hotel to be chic, beautiful and seriously interior inspiration! After a slightly uncomfortable flight we were both so excited to see this huge bed, especially as it was topped with a goose down duvet and had luxurious silky sheets.
I loved that the room, whilst open plan, had distinct areas to it, meaning that you really could make the most of all that space you have! Across from the bed was a low lying bamboo and wicker table, topped with complimentary fruit and a beautiful welcome note from the hotel.
The sofa is the length of this area of the room and provides the perfect look out onto the quiet central business district area, and is amply light for those night owls who want to make the most of Bangkok’s nightlife. With the hotel in the perfect position between the riverside and Silom, you’re close enough to everything you could want, but also far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet at night.
COMO hotels are designed with health and well-being in mind, and you’ll find little touches of this everywhere in the hotel. Every room from Metropolitan grade upwards has a meditation chair in the room, allowing you to enjoy some moments of calm even in one of the busiest cities.
If you’re more of a yogi, then each room comes with its own yoga mat for you to use at your own convenience. Or, if like me, you’re an aspiring yogi who still needs some guidance, there’s a group yoga class every morning in the gym. Now that’s a perfect way to start your day!
The room comes with a Nespresso machine and complimentary water, as well as a fully stocked mini bar for every whim you could imagine.
COMO Metropolitan had by far the largest bathroom we had in our whole trip, and in fact, one of the largest bathrooms I’ve seen, well, anywhere. With a stunning bath with a view out into the city, as well as a separate rain shower and hand shower, no matter how you want to cool off after a day in Bangkok you’re more than at home here.
COMO Metropolitan Bangkok has a Shambhala spa right in the heart of the hotel, which is probably one of the reasons the whole hotel smells incredible. But you don’t need to head to the spa to enjoy that as you have the beautiful toiletries already in your room. My hair can be especially picky but I loved the soft and nourishing shampoo and conditioner.
The one thing that really stays with me about our night at COMO Metropolitan Bangkok is the incredible service. Each time we came down from the lift we were greeted by name and asked if anyone could do anything for us. I loved that the hotel asked what our preferences were (food… It never changes) and could offer us a customised street market trip, bespoke spa bookings and restaurant bookings.
Although we didn’t have the chance to experience the spa, I loved that every time you walked through (which you have to do to get to the pool) you’re greeted by friendly, smiling staff who instantly make you feel welcome and relaxed, even if you are just passing through.
Apart from health and well-being, the COMO brand is well known for its wonderful art. No matter where you look in the hotel, there are beautiful pieces, not just to look at, but to use!
These chairs in the lobby provide not only the perfect place to wait for a taxi, check in or just relax, but are also a beautiful contrast to the black and white lobby, making you feel like you’re in a modern art gallery as well as a luxury hotel.
The gym in the hotel is modern and full of the equipment you’d expect. But me, well, you’re likely to find me somewhere else…
The pool is slightly hidden away within the hotel, and well, you couldn’t keep me away from it!
The perfect place to relax, hide away from a bustling city and have a dip to cool down.
And read that book you’ve not had time to enjoy for a while…
With waiters who are more than happy to bring you water, wine or some pool side snacks, you’re left wanting nothing here.
Including sweet treats, like these homemade fruit ice lollies which make for an ideal refreshment after a few hours of sitting in the sun!
As I mentioned, we had immediately indicated we were oh so excited for Thai food – especially as COMO is well known for its passion for delicious food. To be honest, we’d spent our entire flight with a craving for pad thai and so couldn’t resist sharing a plate of that spicy, fresh and quintessentially Thai dish!
As well as a lighter papaya salad with cashew nuts and chilli. Both dishes were spicy but light and had the perfect balance of flavours.
After a few hours of dozing, swimming and reading, we headed back to our room to freshen up and have a few drinks before exploring a little that evening.
Happiest in a beautiful hotel room in somewhere warm…
Caitlin couldn’t resist admiring the view with a glass of wine in hand. Can you blame her?
COMO Metropolitan Bangkok is home to nahm, a restaurant that has been voted as one of the world’s best 50 restaurants every year since 2012. But we decided to save that treat for our last night, so I’m saving that little gem for now!
Fast forward a hilarious night of exploring Bangkok and the best sleep in that king sized bed, and it was breakfast time. Breakfast is served in glow, the hotel’s other restaurant. Aptly named, ’cause I’m unsure that you could possibly leave the restaurant without feeling fully refreshed, healthy and ready for the day ahead.
From individually bottled juices…
To homemade granola…
Fresh tropical fruit…
To cold meats and pastries (okay slightly less virtuous but it is holiday time!)…
The buffet certainly has you covered for everything you might want. Oh, and that’s before the a la carte menu!
The a la carte menu has two sections which are essentially healthy and indulgent. Both feeling a little jet lagged and not wanting anything heavy we opted for healthy. Caitlin had an egg white omelette, served with mushrooms and some cheese and meats from the buffet.
And smoked salmon and avocado on rye bread for me. You can take the girl out of London…
I don’t think we could have asked for a better start to our trip. I now have a real love for the COMO brand and everything that it stands for and couldn’t recommend a stay at COMO Metropolitan Bangkok more! There’s nothing I didn’t absolutely fall in love with..!
And with that it was time to head to our next destination: Chiang Mai!
27 South Sathorn Road
Bangkok 10120, Thailand
Our stay was complimentary, but I can’t wait to experience more COMO hotels soon!
