As much as I could spend days and days on end at Papaya Playa Project just lying on the beach and enjoying the laid back vibe, Andy doesn’t do so well at you know, sitting still. But I knew we were covered for what we both wanted, as Papaya Playa Project has a tour centre & diving school right on site! So here’s your run down of what to do at Papaya Playa Project!
1. Take A Walk Around
Water sports are an obvious option at Papaya Playa Project; with that white beach and the beautiful blue water, it’s hard to resist the pull of the sea, but if that isn’t what you’re feeling like, take a walk around the hotel. From having the sand between your toes to exploring the jungle, you can wander for hours around here.
2. Jump in a plunge pool when it gets too hot!
You’ll find gorgeous plunge pools dotted around the hotel, which are perfect for cooling down in between jungle walks!
3. Reconnect you body, mind and soul with yoga
It’s all about a different kind of luxury now; having the time, the space and the surroundings to really reconnect with yourself, with nature and with whoever you’re with. Whether you want to enjoy a private yoga class or you’d like to share your practice in the daily group session, Papaya Playa Project can arrange yoga classes just for you.
4. Take a long walk on the beach
With sand for as far as you can see, leave your flip flops at your beach bed, grab your sunnies and walk until you’re ready to come back. Dip your toes in the water, swim back or turn on your heels and walk all the way back until you hear the DJ playing on the beach…
5. Visit the water sports centre
Excursions to centoes and snorkeling have to be booked at least the day before you want to go, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying the water. Instead of going to the tour centre (which although part of the resort is actually on the side of the road) walk along the beach to the water sports centre, where you can take out stand up paddle boards or kayaks for an hour and er, try not to fall over…!
It’s safe to say that Andy had a little more luck staying upright than I did, but we both laughed the entire hour as we made (very) little progress in trying to become stand up paddle boarders!
I certainly ended up sitting down or paddle boarding on my knees more than on my feet!
I might not be the best, but it’s a really fun way to spend an hour!
6. Reward yourself with a well deserved drink!
‘Cause after all that fun and exercise, you deserve a little treat!
7. Enjoy the relaxing and peaceful environment
Let yourself slow down and enjoy being away from the internet, enjoy being with the person you’re traveling with and just be… It might sound strange, but we spend so much of our lives being busy, running around and always having something that we should do, so just stop. Sip a cocktail or a smoothie, listen to the water or read a book. And just be.
8. Make sure you order the tacos…
I mean, I’ll just leave that one here…
9. Take a break from the sun and pull up a stool at the bar
If it’s early in the morning, order one of the incredible fresh smoothies… Or if it’s a little later in the day, trust me the margaritas are incredible! It wouldn’t be a trip to Mexico without some tequila…
10. Make the most of it!
No matter what you want to do, to eat or to see, you can tailor your time at Papaya Playa Project just for you. Which if you ask me, is just about as luxurious as it gets. From lazy mornings, to yoga, to date nights, to watersports… All in a place that is about as special as it gets. It’s somewhere you just have to experience.
With happy faces and having enjoy the unique atmosphere of Papaya Playa Project, it was time for us to check out. But it wasn’t goodbye to Tulum just yet as we were moving just along the beach for a few more nights!
Our stay at Papaya Playa Project was complimentary but all opinions are my own.
