Having fully explored the gorgeous UNICO 20 87, and wanting to make the most of our Unlimited Inclusions, I contacted our Anfitrión to book us a relaxing spa morning before we left! And with a spa as beautiful as this, it would be easy to spend every morning at UNICO 20 87 here!
There’s a real focus on wellness at the hotel, and throughout Mexico, with a desire to help you reconnect to your travel partner, to yourself and to your surroundings. Whether you want to continue your personal training sessions whilst you’re here, take advantage of the 24 hour gym, develop your yoga practice or indulge in as many spa treatments as you can during your stay, UNICO 20 87 has thought of everything.
The spa and wellness centre are located near the front of the hotel, but hidden away to one side, meaning it’s the most peaceful and tranquil spot! As we approached the spa I could already sense the calming atmosphere as I saw the pretty little candle lit lanterns, heard the trickle of water and smelt that stunning spa scent.
In fact, it’s not just a spa and gym that are hidden away down at this end of the hotel, but there’s also a Beauty & Grooming parlour to help you get date night ready for dinner at one of the hotel’s restaurants! Whether you want to book a pedicure, a haircut or just a blowdry, it’s a great place to book in for a little me time.
The modern, sleek decor that I loved is present throughout the wellness area and adds to the calm, relaxed atmosphere of the spa.
When you’re booking your treatments, you can either choose from one of the Unlimited Spa Inclusions, which come as part of your room booking, or one of the Signature Treatments which come at an extra cost. One thing to factor in is that even though the treatments are part of Unlimited Inclusions, there is a 20% service fee for each treatment. The spa menu that’s online doesn’t currently include the prices, so to give you an idea, the couples massage that we booked was a pricey $470, and so the service fee was $94.
As with everywhere in the hotel, there are little touches to remind you just where you are, like these little cacti waiting to greet you as you arrive!
After we arrived and checked in at the spa, we were taken to our separate changing rooms. After getting changed, we were able to use the relaxation facilities before our treatment, which exposed to varying levels of heat and icy coolness! I feel so rejuvenated, more awake and was already much more relaxed after some me time (as men and women have their own relaxation facilities). Starting in a dry sauna, before being led to a steam room, an ice room and a (very!) cold shower, all of your senses are fully awoken before you lie down, complete with an eye mask to relax for ten or fifteen minutes before your treatment begins.
I really enjoyed that even though we’d booked a couples massage that we still had a little time to ourselves to unwind, though I can also see that some would prefer to spend this time in the company of their partner before the massage.
After a quick glass of water to rehydrate, we were shown upstairs to our treatment room.
Not that we weren’t already super relaxed after our stay, but I love just enjoying a long, relaxing massage. It’s not that I don’t have a tonne of knots that could do with being removed from my back (!) but there’s something about holidays that to me, just has to be utterly relaxing.
After 50 minutes of back, shoulder, head and leg massages, it was time to wake up just a little and leave our treatment room and it’s calming influence and beautiful design.
Not quite ready to head back to the outside world, we enjoyed cups of fresh chamomile tea to relax ourselves from the inside out! We had a three night stay at UNICO 20 87 and could only book our spa treatment on the last morning of our stay as there was no availability before, so I’d highly recommend picking your spa treatments either before you arrive or as soon as you do, or you risk not being able to book any treatments.
Just before we left I noticed there was a little space just at the back of the spa reception that I hadn’t noticed before… A little oasis of calm hidden away in this hotel, and so couldn’t leave without peaking my head around the corner! The friendly staff were only too happy to show me into this little courtyard so I could experience the little gem that it had to offer…
Exceptionally private, serene and almost zen like, these private plunge pools come complete with a seating area and lie down beds which are actually in the pool!
You’re made to feel welcome for as long as you’d like to make use of these beautiful surroundings, so take your tea, sit outside and feel the glorious Mexican sunshine on your face, as you lie in the plunge pool and let yourself relax for a few moments longer…
If I didn’t want to leave the treatment room, I certainly didn’t want to leave this area! If you’re not a massage fan, there is a wide range of Facial Ceremonies on offer, from an Age Defying Facial to a Sensitive Skin Facial. If I’d had the opportunity to book another, I’d have booked the Deep Hydration Facial to give a little life back to my skin after all the amazing Mexican sunshine!
If any of the products have caught your eye, it’s easy enough to pick up a few products from the swinging shelves and have them added to your room bill.
Not quite sure I was ready to leave the water, we headed to the quieter pool to relax, read our books and enjoy a cocktail, still feeling completely blissed out from our spa experience.
For me, holiday time isn’t just about the adventure, and exploring new places, but about being able to completely switch off, and a combination of a wonderful massage and the rest of the day spent relaxing by the pool was exactly what we needed!
Beach bliss at its best!
