As well as Steph’s spiffing welcome cocktail! There are 3 options for the Squiffy Picnic, all with the same food options, but a variation in alcohol, whether you’d like ales, wines or Nyetimber sparkiling wine.
We tucked into our sandwiches, in typical classic British fashion, of jam sandwiches, smoked salmon, cucumber and horseradish and ham – delicious! A real treat as we caught up all about post graduation life and what London living has been like for us both.
I have to say I rather enjoyed my new hat…! It was a real treat to have such a fun afternoon tea without the formal airs that are usually present in the fabulous London hotels.
Wanting to toast our catch up in true style we both opted for the Nyetimber Sparkling Wine option. After we had time to enjoy our sandwiches we were brought out first picnic hamper!
And the bubbles were popped…
Poured and enjoyed!
There was a little elderflower cordial on the table in case we fancied a little concoction of our own, which was a really lovely touch.
Like two schoolgirls on Christmas morning we quickly began unwrapping our goodies and seeing what was in our hamper! Being the big kid that I am, the first thing I did was build the paper plane whilst supping my sparkling wine, ’cause I’m a big kid who’s allowed the fun bubbles now!
We devoured grapes, cherry tomatoes, sausages, pork pies – and that was just for the savoury selection – whilst chatting, playing a few rounds of cards. A perfect British afternoon don’t you think?
Now, the shortbread – as a Scottish gal I can be quite fussy about this – but I absolutely adored it! Buttery, crunchy and all round moreish – it was exactly what shortbread should be!
Slices of Victoria Sponge, all wrapped up, were soon nibbled at as we opened our second bottle of Nyetimber. If you’ve not had Nyetimber before, you’ve got to get your hands on a bottle as it’s my favourite English sparkling wine and is a real treat.
Just as we thought it couldn’t get any more exciting we remembered that we still had our second, post picnic hamper to enjoy! The second hamper is brimming with damson vodka and delicious Fentiman’s tonic water and a cheese and biscuits plate, as well as the classic Cahoots newspaper, aka their cocktail menu.
We merrily emptied our hip flasks into our picnic mugs, added our tonic water, and enjoyed the delicious tasting damson vodka cocktail!
