If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have noticed that I flew home this weekend – at last! It’s a bit of a family tradition to go out for lunch the day I get home, and it’s really not the time of year to be breaking traditions, so we just had to nip out for lunch. We pilled into the car and went to The Oaksmere, a gorgeous hotel and restaurant near-ish where we live. My parents have been before but it was a new one for me – and it’s somewhere I’ll definitely be going back to!

You drive in through a gorgeous tree lined driveway, and eventually come up to the main house itself, it almost felt like we were driving up to a castle. I wish I’d snapped a picture of it, but I was too awestruck to dig out the camera!

Naturally we started with some starters (it would have been rude not to!)

We crunched our way through pork crackling and apple sauce, which was by far my favourite started,
it was so good! I could have eaten a whole serving to myself, but I was feeling generous!

Bread and balsamic is a must on any dinner table, we couldn’t resist!

And well, if you’re having bread and balsamic, you really do need some olives!

As we caught up over our starters and a gorgeous glass of wine, I pretended that exams didn’t exist and my parents told me all about the exciting new things happening in the house (all very fun!) We had the perfect table in the bar, right next to fire that had a great little booth seat which I promptly took.

Before we knew it it was main course time!

You can take the girl out of France but you can’t take France out of the girl – I had mussels and chips in a stunning cream sauce. I really would recommend this if you ever go to The Oaksmere, it was truly fantastic.

Just look at this creamy deliciousness… Mmmmm.

Mum was feeling super hungry, so went for the burger with mushrooms and crispy bacon (which I had to try, of course, to you know, make sure it was okay!) – and I tell you, this looks like a wonderful burger, and you know how highly I rate burgers!

Dad, ever the traditionalist, went for fish and chips, which was also a worthy choice. What can I say, when it comes to food we all make exceptional choices!

After much catching up, laughing and gossiping we decided it was time to head home, after all I hadn’t had time to have a good chatter with Mr Sandy Dog yet!

Normally, when you get the bill at a restaurant it’s something that makes you a little sad (or at least your bank card is a little sad!) but The Oaksmere have an amazing way of giving you the bill, as a message in a little bottle. Too cute! With wonderful chocolates too, it was the ideal way to finish a meal.

One final treat before we left, we saw this gorgeous wall – a wall that was well, picture perfect! Reminds me so much of Alice in Wonderland – have a look for the little rabbit on the chessboard and you’ll understand why.

Sorry, my jumper is out of stock!

Excuse the hair – it was more than a little windy!

If you’re ever in Suffolk, it’s definitely somewhere you want to go, such a lovely setting and incredible food. Perfect for a catch up with the parents! Next time, I have my eye on the cocktail bar!
