As soon as exams finished and we had had a birthday celebration for Andy at Bunga Bunga, we jetted off to sunny Barcelona for a few days of sun, culture, sea and sangria! Along the way we discovered some gems of bars and restaurants that I can’t wait to tell you about, starting with OneOcean Club Barcelona.
OneOcean Club at Port Vell is one of the largest superyacht marinas in the world and at any one time you can see some very impressive and beautiful yachts. As a member you can take advantage of the wellness facilities on dry land as well as the restaurant, bar and business center, and even if you’re not a member I’d recommend a trip to the beautiful OneOcean Bar.
As well as these gorgeous views… Looking out over the marina, and in the distance the beautiful buildings of Barcelona. Andy and I were quite happy to admire not just the views but the yachts; some that would easily be a luxurious house on the water and spread over three or even four floors!
Barcelona is such a busy, buzzy city that’s on the go late into the night and so it was wonderful to take some time and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the marina and the sound of the water lapping at the yachts.
Though after walking down to the marina and admiring that view, I have to say I was a little thirsty and was ready for a glass or two of wine…
We headed along the marina from the building where the member’s facilities were to OneOcean Club itself ready to sit down at the bar. There are handy golf carts to save your feet (which I was very grateful for!) to transport you from one building to another, along the marina and behind the most beautiful yachts.
Before I could enjoy the views and the live music at the bar I wanted to enjoy a sip of cold, crisp wine. The friendly waiter could obviously tell that this was the case and as soon as we sat down he asked if he could bring us anything. A little more refreshed, we realised just how beautiful our surroundings were.
The blue-tiled indoor bar is inspired by Antonio Gaudi’s works which are such an important part of Barcelona and also mirror the marina itself. Though it was far too nice an evening to sit inside…
The outdoor bar is a picturesque sun-trap which is exactly where you want to spend early evenings in Barcelona. Taking some time away from the busy centre of the city to enjoy the more relaxed marina is a real must, and OneOcean Club Barcelona is an ideal place to do just that.
Early summer evenings at the bar play home to live music which was the perfect background for our evening, and later on in the evening there is a DJ to get you in the mood for Barcelona’s late night scene.
As we had arrived quite early we were able to enjoy the outdoor bar virtually on our own, but were pleased to see more people join us around 7. It really is a late night city, most nights we didn’t have dinner before 8.30 or 9, so were able to really enjoy evening drinks after a day of exploring the city.
As more glasses of wine were poured we excitedly talked about the restaurant we were about to visit that evening and plan what we wanted to see and do when we were in the city. To be honest, it’s the first moment we had had since exams and birthdays to just sit, relax and enjoy each other’s company.
Toasts were said to birthdays, celebrations and holidays as we hummed along with the music and enjoyed the first signs of the setting sun.
Marina moments that were some of the best luxury memories of the trip.
It was smiles all round at OneOcean Club Barcelona until it was time to head off into the night for a very special birthday celebration back in the heart of Barcelona.
