This is a bit of a family tradition in my house. Every year mum and I will sit around the kitchen table and decorate oranges, whilst we listen to Christmas songs. So even though I won’t be home for a couple of weeks yet, that doesn’t stop me making my flat festive – I’m sure I’ll do this with mum as well when I get home! Oranges and cloves, as well as my The White Company’s Winter candle, will always remind me of Christmas. So, to get me in the festive spirit, I made some!
It’s super simple, and smells incredible, very much worth it – especially if you want a change from your scented candle or room fragrance. They also look very pretty!
Firstly, you’re going to need a really pretty bowl, or a clear vase (though you’ll need to make sure you clean your vase fairly regularly or your oranges will go off!). My trusty heart shaped dish works perfectly!
There are two approaches to this: the everywhere, no pattern, very homemade look, or the very classic straight lines! I’m more of a straight line kind of a girl, but it’s entirely up to you.
It’s as simple as this: push the cloves into the orange, and all over it. If you’re going in lines, try to make them straight – but they might be a little wonky, it all adds to the home crafted touch!
We usually do 4 lines all around the orange, so it looks from the top that you have divided your orange into eighths. If you’re not so great at maths, here’s a photo!
Arrange them nicely in your bowl or your vase and enjoy the beautiful smell. It’s Christmassss!
And it meant I even got to break out my festive ring from a gorgeous little jewellers in Rennes.
