A Luxurious Day at Bonj les Bains Beach Club, Hvar

After a few days island hopping  and seeing what the beautiful islands had to offer, we decided we wanted a day relaxing in the luxury beach club next to our hotel. Bonj les Bains is by far the most luxurious area in Hvar island, and as it was in our hotel complex, it was the perfect place to spend our last day in Hvar.

It’s set just outside Hotel Amfora and so it feels very separate to the busy pool area in the hotel; in fact, it’s the exact opposite of busy – it’s a haven of peace and quiet, and the ideal place to spend a hot summer’s day with some cocktails!

We had been given the use of a pontoon for the day, which has enough space for six people and has four sun loungers and a beach bed which was just as comfy as it looks!

Each pontoon is very separate, so that you really do feel as though you have your own space to relax, unwind or party – whichever is your preference! In the midday heat we really enjoyed pulling the curtains down to get a little respite from the heat, and then using the loungers when we wanted to bake in the sun.

Bonj les Bains

The whole club has the most beautiful view of the sea and the boats, and is also the perfect place to take a dip when you want to cool off.

Bonj les Bains

Bonj really is the picture of luxury, especially if you define luxury as privacy and excellent service.

The main building is right in the centre of the club, with a restaurant on the ground and lower ground floors and pontoons and lounge chairs to either side.

I took the opportunity to flop on the comfy bed in my new swimsuit (also available in petite and tall) and take in all the rays that I could!

Using my new found favourite hat to stop my very Scottish skin from burning!

It was by far the most luxurious experience we had whilst we were in Croatia; the service was so attentive, we sat sipping cocktails, champagne and wine all day – it really was a real treat!

Bonj les Bains

I couldn’t take the smile off my face all day!

Bonj les Bains

The view of the sea was absolutely incredible – not only could we see out far out to see, oggling all the boats, but it was also great fun to watch people attempt to paddle board!

With pontoon service, there isn’t even any need to move to order food, drinks or cocktails, so you realy do get to make the most of your experience. It was a wonderful place for a romantic day but I can also see it making a fabulous place to spend a day with girlfriends, either on a girls’ holiday or as part of a luxury hen holiday.

We started off the way we meant to go on – with a couple of glasses champagne whilst we read our books and played cards.

Taking in the views around us, and marveling at the paradise we were in. After a few days of lying on rocky beaches (there are very few sand beaches in Croatia), having the choice of four sun loungers and a bed was perfection itself.

Bonj les Bains

We watched all the boats, little…

Bonj les Bains

…and large, as they sailed past.

One of the best things about Bonj is that they really take care of every little detail, for example leaving pre-inflated lilos at the side of each pontoon for those who don’t want to swim (aka me).

Though I wasn’t entirely (read: at all) graceful on my lilo and kept falling off! So you’ll have to make do with a photo of graceful Andy instead!

In what seems to be a tradition in Hvar, pitchers of cocktails are served in carafes with huuuuge straws! Perhaps the only disappointment of the day was that we could only have one pitcher of mojito as they had run out of mint… But if that’s the biggest criticism I have, you can tell just how magical it is at Bonj.

Big kid = big cocktail. Just kidding, I did share!

Bonj les Bains

…after a while!

Though we could have ordered from our pontoon, we preferred to eat in the restaurant itself so that we could have a little break from the heat.
If we though the setting from our pontoon was beautiful, the restaurant was even better.

It really amused me to notice (though it rather worried Andy that I remembered) that the flowers on our table were the same as those at Ron Gastrobar in Amsterdam!

Bonj les Bains

We ordered a beautiful bottle of Rosé wine to accompany our meal – I don’t know why but Rosé always tastes better to me when it’s warm!

Bonj les Bains

I really wanted to order the Avocado Prawn Tostadas, but much to my disappointment they had run out. Instead I opted for an old favourite: the club sandwich, which was fantastic, though the chips, which were excellently crispy, that were served with them were a little warm rather than hot.

Bonj les Bains

I adored the accompanying sauce, it was rich and gave a wonderful flavour to the sandwich and the chips.

Bonj les Bains

Andy ordered the dentex fillet with a side of chips, which seemed to go down extremely well!

After our late lunch, we ambled back to the pontoon to enjoy the last of the sunshine and the heat.

Bonj les Bains

I loved the way the sun hit the water and shined, almost like a diamond. Hvar, just like Zadar, has wonderful sunsets, so we cosied up, had a few more glasses of wine and settled in to watch the sunset.

The evening light just made everything look even more beautiful. Can you see just how close we were to our hotel?

I sat at the end of the pontoon, taking in the view and watching the world go by; entirely content and in a state of pure bliss.

Does anyone else’s hair love sea water? I wish I could get my hair to be that curly and retain that shape at home, so if anyone has any tips I’d love to hear them in the comments!

All too soon it was 7pm (we’d arrived at 10am!) and we had to go back to our room and freshen up before going out for our last evening.

We waved goodbye to our beautiful pontoon…

Bonj les Bains

…and drank in all the beautiful views before we left.

Bonj les Bains

It really was a day in paradise.

In fact, writing this has made me wish I was back there again! Bonj is a real must for Hvar if you’re looking for luxury; the service was unparalleled, it was peaceful and it was one of the best holiday days I’ve ever had.

As with all Suncani Hotels and facilities on Hvar there is one real benefit: all you have to do is present your hotel card at any of the restaurants, bars, hotels or Bonj and it’s all added to your bill, no matter what hotel you’re staying at. With 4 luxury hotels and countless bars and restaurants to choose from, it’s a real bonus being able to put everything on your hotel key and pay it off at the end.

You can pay for the use of either just sunloungers (as above), a cabin, a baldachin or a private pontoon. Full details and prices are here.
