Breakfast with Benefits with Eat Natural and Skye Gyngell

When it comes to hidden gems, London has more than her fair share, and so when an invite to an event at Spring Restaurant, promised to be a stunning venue, with Eat Natural fell into my inbox I was more than a little intrigued.

As a girl who has a bowl of granola with yoghurt and fresh fruit every morning for breakfast I wanted to see what was new in the granola world and so hopped along to gorgeous Somerset House for a morning of delicious, healthy food and of hidden gem hunting.

Eat Natural have just launched their super granolas, a range of gluten free granola packed full of protein and lovingly made with Eat Natural’s trademark “delicious bits and bobs” – so you can see why it’s a breakfast with benefits. It’s one of the reasons I love having granola in the morning; I know I’ll feel full until lunch time, and as long as I’ve picked the right granola, I’ll have started the day with a healthy helping of fruit, grains and nutrients.

Especially for the event, Skye had created a set of breakfast dishes using the ingredients in the new Eat Natural granolas, which were brought to us as we chatted to other bloggers and Eat Natural representatives. It was a great chance to finally catch up with Aftab and hear all about his upcoming plans and university life!
Spring Restaurant is stunning; I couldn’t get over how beautiful and yet simple the decor was, and how warm and welcoming it was.

We sat down to beautifully presented tables…

…and were quickly presented with beautiful bread baskets. I know what you’re thinking – healthy bread? Well, these homemade sourdough and rye bread, made with all the lovely seeds from the granola, are as good as it gets! Bread isn’t unhealthy, like everything else, in moderation, and is even better when it’s homemade and preservative free.

I loved tucking into them with a little Kefir butter and the fig and vanilla jam; sweet yet not overpowering, it was just perfect.

The space we were in, though not huge, was so tastefully decorated that it felt as though there was more than enough room. I can imagine it being the perfect place to curl up on a cold winter’s day after a session at Skate Somerset House, or a wonderful respite from the hot London heat in summer.

As it was breakfast, and I’d run out the door without my morning coffee, I ordered a delicious coffee whilst I waited for Aftab (turns out I’m always early and he’s always a touch late!)

The granolas are packed full of buckwheat, a gluten free alternative to wheat, Skye made delicious warm pear and lemon turnovers. Now these were something that I could get used to eating every day! Bursting full of flavour with a delicious crisp pasty, I loved them.

I really did feel as though I was in a Parisian garden, somewhere in the golden triangle; it’s certainly a luxurious surrounding for any meal that you want to enjoy.

As I’m not much of a porridge fan, I opted for the scrambled eggs with girolle mushrooms which I found absolutely outstanding. Creamy, soft eggs with a beautiful dark mushroom on top, I think I’ve found a new brunch staple in my house!

I couldn’t go away without having a little taster of the granola; and as I say, having a bowl every morning I know what I like in a granola! I loved that this isn’t too sweet or sugary, that it’s packed with texture and seeds and was all round delicious. I feel a change in morning granola coming on…!

It was a lovely morning chatting away to friends old and new, and laughing with the lovely Hannah, a lady who also appreciates London’s green spaces (perfect setting for two green space lovers isn’t it?)

Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got a bowl of granola to eat…!

I’ll be back to visit Spring again; this is one gem that’s no longer undiscovered in my book! Skye’s cooking is incredible, and some of the freshest I’ve had in London recently, so I’m excited to see what it brings next time I visit!
