Ladies Who Lunch in Luxury at Longueville Manor, Jersey

Visiting Becca in Jersey is always a treat; from catching up with one of my best friends to exploring the beautiful island itself, I love spending weekends in this gorgeous Channel Island. To celebrate our reunion we had booked a lunch at the beautiful Longueville Manor Jersey. It’s safe to say I fell in love with the hotel as soon as we arrived…

There aren’t many advantages to having a best friend who doesn’t live near you; but it does mean I get to visit Jersey every once in a while. I love everything about the island, but when I was there this time, I discovered a few gems that I know will become firm Jersey favourites.

Longueville Manor is a Relais & Chateaux hotel that’s owned by very welcoming owners Malcolm and Patricia Lewis. As we arrived, Malcolm greeted us with a warm smile and offered to show us round the gorgeous hotel. Fortunately, we’d brought flats with us for just that! I loved hearing that the hotel has been family run by three generations of the Lewis family since 1949 as I really enjoy a personal touch in luxury hotels.

We started our tour at the spa area, which was a beautiful, peaceful place for guests to relax on one of the sun loungers whilst soaking up the sun…

Or recline in the hot tub with a glass of champagne… I think you can guess where I would be! The exposed brick gave the area a chic and warm feel that instantly made me feel relaxed.

There are two treatment rooms at Longueville Manor which allow you to indulge in a massage or a facial. Angie tried the special de Mamiel facial during her visit to lovely Longueville. This special facial is exclusive to Longueville Manor Spa and is based on your skin and personality type! A definite must for my next Longueville experience!

What I really loved about this hotel is that everything is focused not just on luxury, but also on sustainability and a rounded experience. For example, there’s a huge focus on cooking with ingredients from the very impressive kitchen garden. As we walked round to the kitchen garden we met head gardener, Dave, who took us round his beautiful gardens and let us taste a few ingredients!

Longueville Manor-12

Neither Becca nor I had ever heard of a cucamelon, a cross between a cucumber and a melon, but loved the sweet, fruity taste.

Longueville Manor-13

The very talented chefs at Longueville work closely with Dave when they’re designing the menu as they are always keen to use as much of the home grown produce as they can. All of this contributes to a wonderful atmosphere at Longueville Manor, where you feel as if you’ve walked into a luxurious old manor where everything has been thought of and every care attended to.

Longueville Manor-14

On a hot summer day (yes I did get slightly sun tinged from walking around!) the smell of the sweet peas was gorgeous.

Longueville Manor-15

The hotel has 6 different categories of rooms, meaning whether you’re looking for a romantic break, a girls’ weekend or even a family trip there’s a room or suite for you. I loved hearing about Becca’s experiences at Longueville, from a delicious poolside afternoon tea with her mum to even staying in the gorgeous two bedroom Cottage Suite with her family when she was younger, I could easily see why she loves spending time at this beautiful hotel.

Longueville Manor-16

Nature, too, has a home at Longueville Manor, with ducks in the pond and even bee hives in the beautiful grounds.

Longueville Manor-17

The grounds themselves are beautiful and would make the perfect spot for a crisp autumn or winter walk. But on one of the hottest days of the year so far, Becca and I had somewhere else in mind to soak up the beautiful sun…

Longueville Manor-18

The pool at Longueville is something else; a gorgeous bright blue pool, surrounded by reclining deck chairs which are specially reserved for guests. Malcolm had very kindly put aside two loungers for Becca and I to use that afternoon, which were perfect for a post lunch sunbathe.

Longueville Manor-19

While I loved the grounds, I think the most beautiful part of Longueville is the main building. A stunning old mannor (the first record of which is from the 1300s!) covered in beautiful climbing plants and kept in pristine condition, I could easily see myself spending a romantic weekend away here.

Not only is the hotel a member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux collection, but the hotel is also well known for its delicious food.

Longueville Manor-23

Before our lunch we took a table at the poolside to enjoy a glass of champagne for me and a glass of Pimms for Becca…

Longueville Manor-24

In that moment, I couldn’t have been happier catching up with one of my best friend over a glass of crisp champagne in glorious surroundings…

Longueville Manor-25

We were lead into the restaurant by the very helpful staff and sat down in the beautiful dining room.

We started with an amouse bouche of fresh radishes from the garden, which tasted incredibly fresh! I loved knowing that the gardeners had probably picked them that morning and taken them straight to the kitchen to be prepped.

We were having wine pairings with our lunch, which for me included a crisp Jersey white wine which I loved.

Longueville Manor-30

Ever one to fall down on the bread hurdle, I dived straight in for the still warm focaccia…

To start, Becca ordered the scallops with crispy pancetta.

Longueville Manor-35

Juicy, plump scallops which were perfectly cooked, served with delicious pancetta and beautifully presented, this made an enviable first dish!

Longueville Manor-34

I too opted for a fish starter and chose the local deep water crab, sweet pickled cucumber, melon, avocado and warm crab claw.
Longueville Manor-36

I adored the light, fresh flavours in this dish as well as the perfectly cooked fish.

Longueville Manor-37

For mains Becca had a hearty roast beef, served with delicious creamy potatoes and a delicious red wine and gravy sauce.

Longueville Manor-38

Beautifully tender meat which fell apart as she cut into it – and since she polished the plate, I’m fairly sure she loved this dish!

On hot days I prefer lighter dishes and so stuck to fish for my main course. Jersey is famed not just for its butter, wine and potatoes, but also for its sole. I loved the beautiful, natural flavour of the fish.

Longueville Manor-41

Plated beautifully, and served with scallops, an asparagus puree and vegetables from the garden, it was an exquisite dish.

Served with classic Jersey Royals, it’s a dish that celebrates the best of this beautiful island.

Longueville Manor-47

A little too full for dessert, we headed back out to the pool to relax and enjoy the summer heat.

Longueville Manor-50

And what better way to celebrate summer than with a cool glass of Pimms as you lie poolside?

Longueville Manor-51

Longueville Manor-53

Our waiter kindly brought us some petit fours to give us a little sweet treat for the end of our meal…

Longueville Manor-54

And later brought mango and raspberry sorbets out for everyone at the pool to help us cool down!

Longueville Manor-55

Longueville Manor-56

If you want to amble through the beautiful gardens, you can borrow a pair of Hunters, which are ready and waiting for you at reception.

Longueville Manor-57

Yet another reminder that everything has been thought of at Longueville Manor.

Longueville Manor-58

I could easily see myself returning to Longueville again and again whether in winter or summer…

Longueville Manor-59

Longueville Manor-60

Having enjoyed a glorious afternoon so far, we hopped in a taxi to meet Becca’s boyfriend at his boat for a few drinks before heading home for a BBQ.

Longueville Manor-62

It really was a perfect afternoon in Jersey.
