So it’s finally nearly my 21st! I know, it’s been a long time coming. Please make all the age jokes, I’m fairly sure I’ve heard them all!
And there’s only one way to celebrate a big birthday: with lots of food and wine and of course, your closest friends. Oh, and one giant balloon! So that’s exactly what I did this weekend.

The girls and boy arrived all at different times; Andy came the night before, Carrie came in the afternoon and Lib arrived (after a fairly adventurous drive and battle with my driveway!) early evening.

I spent most of the morning cooking and baking with my mum and generally getting everything ready. Whilst Andy slept. Of course!
Mum came back with a very special balloon – yipeeee!

And then we set about designing the table. Sorry for the blurry photo, I was sure it was a lot better! We had lots of lovely little “21” confetti, and beautiful hyacinth flowers from the garden all over the table.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love bunting (exciting news coming on that front soon!), so this was a little bit of a necessity.

There were gorgeous tulips all over the house, and even the occasional daffodil. The ideal thing about having a birthday around this time is that you have a gorgeous selection of flowers to choose from!

Mr Sandy assumed his regular position, ready to join in on all the fun (and receive as many ear scratches as were going!).

But now for the main event: the food!

For starters we had delicious langoustines and prawns in a lemon and garlic butter. They tasted like a slice of heaven!

A bit fiddly!

Mains were a side of salmon baked with pesto and parmesan with a lemon, basil sauce. Oh my gosh, I could eat this all over again! There were sides of green vegetables and dauphinoise potatoes (oh yes, it was a big meal!).

Naturally, it being my 21st I had splashed out on a super expensive dress... Just kidding, look at that price tag – can you believe it?!

I have to admit, my friends absolutely spoiled me! I’m a very lucky lady!

And it’s not even my actual birthday yet! It’s just all a bit too exciting!

P.S. Let me know if you want any of the recipes – happy to write them up if you do!
