Basement Sate Dessert and Cocktail Pairing

When someone said dessert and cocktail bar my first though was girls’ night! Some people would have plucked straight for a romantic night but cocktails and chocolate screams date night with Kirsty for me!
On the hottest day of the  year we headed down to Basement Sate, a cool safe haven in Soho, to escape from the blistering heat and treat ourselves.

On Tuesdays they serve a cocktail and dessert pairing, with the idea that the drinks are meant to complement your food, an idea which I absolutely love. 
The three desserts were all very different which was fantastic, as I love being able to dip in and out of different flavours. 
We started with this beautiful light pistachio cake-based-mousse which was beautiful. The mousse was lovely and light and the cake was excellently presented and tasty as well. 

It was served with a light whiskey based cocktail which, although I wasn’t expecting to like, I ended up enjoying quite a lot. Despite being Scottish I’m really not a whiskey fan, so I was a little worried about this one – though no need! It was surprisingly sweet, which was much better.

Next up was a wonderful blackberry macaron, which I knew I was going to love. It was excellently prepared, but I had wished it had been a little larger as it was for a sharing dish and we only managed a bite each before it was finished.

It was served with a beautiful elderflower based cocktail which was deliciously sweet – and frankly I could have had more than one of these!

Finally, there was a decadent dark chocolate mousse with a raspberry on top. Oh my goodness. Chocolate deliciousness. I need it again in my life.

Unfortunately, the cocktail was based on a dark American whiskey which was far, far too strong for both of us. It was far too dark and alcoholic to be enjoyable for us. 
Decor wise, its really well done, and feels almost as though you’ve traveled back to a 1920s American smoking room, complete with leather sofas and chairs.

A perfect summer hideaway that I think will be even better in winter!
