Dalloway Dreams: SilverSpoon’s Afternoon Tea at Dalloway Terrace

Technology has moved many things on since Virgina Woolf’s day, but something hasn’t changed: likeminded literary lovers still meet in Bloomsbury to discuss all things blogging over a glass or two of champagne. And in Bloomsbury, there’s no better place for a glass of champange and afternoon tea with friends than Dalloway Terrace

Much like our afternoon tea last year, Angie of the incredible (and wanderlust inducing) SilverSpoon London had invited some of her closest blogger friends to celebrate the re-opening of one of our favourite London terraces.

With a degree in English literature and a love of beautiful places and afternoon tea, it really was a perfect place for Angie to host us all!

If you haven’t managed to snag a table yet, Dalloway Terrace should be top of your list for summer in London, whether it’s for afternoon tea, a long brunch, or post Oxford Street shopping drinks. ‘Cause you’ve got to toast all of those purchases somewhere, right?!

As I arrived, Gary and Angie were popping a bottle of Perrier-Jouet Blanc de Blancs champagne to toast to the occasion!

It was great to catch up with Katie and Ben who I hadn’t seen since their wedding last year and hear all about their exciting trip to St Lucia! But they weren’t the only jetsetters at the table, with Emma about to depart on a very exciting round the world trip!

As champagne was poured, Mina arrived and I couldn’t wait to start hearing all about her job, exciting new projects and of course, her lovely family.

There’s something really special about Dalloway Terrace – and I can’t quite put my finger on it… It could be the stunning decor (in winter and in summer alike it’s so beautifully done up), it could be the service with a smile, or it could just be that I’ve had so many lovely memories here. But there’s no doubting that it has a certain something.

Before long, waiters brought out the afternoon tea stands to line the middle of our long table.

Sweet treats included a heavenly chocolate eclair, a mango tart and a very indulgent slice of chocolate torte…

Which were all as delicious as they were beautiful! It’s safe to say that on my stand there were mere crumbs left at the end..!

Further down the stand were fluffy plain and sultana scones, which were just as perfect as I remembered. Layered with cream and jam, they were the perfect treat to go with our champagne and my white peony tea.

There’s something about warm fresh scones and clotted cream that makes my little heart sing – especially when devoured on a hot sunny day with friends.

It was one of those Saturdays where you start to feel like summer is finally here, as we sat long into the afternoon talking about upcoming adventures and London plan. It’s easy to imagine a group of writers spending their days here discussing novels, plots and characters…

Smoked salmon, chicken and tomato and cucumber and cress sandwiches completed the Dalloway Terrace afternoon tea serving. So good in fact that a few more plates were ordered… Dalloway Terrace is part of The Doyle Collection, which regular readers will know is a firm favourite of mine.

They’re well known for their magical Guinness bread and so when a plate of Guinness bread and smoked salmon was brought out, I couldn’t resist diving in for a bite!

A few more glasses of champagne were poured, and we laughed long into the afternoon… So long in fact that they had started to set up for dinner!

With one last glance at the terrace and all the little details which help to make it so special, I couldn’t help but smile, knowing that one of my favourite London summer spots is back open!
