Mummy Daughter Lunch Date at Polpo, Chelsea

Last weekend mum came up to London to visit – which always means three things: food, shopping and lots of it! As I knew mum wanted to visit Chelsea I booked us a table at Polpo, a Venetian cicheti, or small plate, restaurant nestled in the heart of Duke of York Square. The perfect spot for two weary ladies after a morning of shopping!
It’s a really cosy restaurant, with nestled tables everywhere – so you’ll probably leave knowing your neighbour about as well as your dining companion! I wish I had taken a photo of the interior as it really was gorgeous and made me feel as though I really was back in Venice.

After hearing about the starters from our lovely waitress, we couldn’t resist the sound of the crab served with warm foccacia. A really lovely dish that had just the right amount of soft crab and textured vegetables.

As it was a Saturday and a celebration, a carafe of wine was called for!

Being the fish lovers that we are we had to order the lemon, garlic and chili prawns. A dish that had a lovely kick to it that we both couldn’t get enough of.

You know when you order a salad and it’s mainly just a side dish to keep yourself feeling healthy? Well this was not the case here. The raddichio, blood orange and walnut salad was outstanding; full of incredible flavours and was entirely polished off by the time we were finished with the dish!

Never able to resist the lure of cheese we opted for the special pizette of the day, a four cheese a rocket delight. A crisp and crunchy base covered with oozy cheese; I mean, it was a kind of heaven.

We thought we were done; in fact we had actually commended ourselves on not over-ordering (something I find all too easy to do when you’re ordering small plates). And then… Someone’s order of fritto misto went past and we knew that we had to try it ’cause it just looked that good!

Batter that was not greasy in the slightest covered delicious fresh fish; it was a perfectly executed dish. Since I posted the image on Instagram I’ve even had quite a few comments from people saying that they too had to order the fritto misto and loved it!

A perfect little lunch date with mum and a gem of a restaurant for resting your weary post-shopping feet!
