This post is actually a little bit of a tease…
‘Cause when we arrived in Split it was already 9.30 at night and after a verrrry fun but long evening with Andrea and Michael the night before, we were both a bit knackered!
We booked an airport transfer through Viator and even though our flight was delayed, our driver was waiting for us as we arrived. It was a really great service – and I’ll be booking a transfer with them again. What really was excellent was that they called our hotel and let them know we were on our way so that someone could meet us when we arrived.
But determined that we were going to enjoy every moment of our Croatian adventure we dropped out bags at our first incredible hotel, asked them to make us a reservation at a close-by restaurant that they recommended and set about exploring what we discovered was a beautiful city.
The restaurant our hotel booked, Macaron, was tucked away in a little corner, hidden unless you knew where to look.

I loved sitting under the stars in the evening heat, staring at the sky and the trees.

There was something magical about these little steps that led to the restaurant – so simple but beautiful in their own way.

I started the holiday as I went on and ordered grilled squid, which was delicious! Andy, always the more adventurous, ordered octopus which he declared to be a great success.

Do you ever find that when you arrive in a city at night that you catch yourself wondering what it really looks like? Well, we did that night. We wandered along the sea front, enjoying a stroll after our flight and transfer wondering just what it would look like when we woke up.

The sea front was beautiful all lit up after dark – though as you’ll soon see, it looked even better in late afternoon sun!

I’ll be writing a full post all about our beautiful hotel, but it was a good ‘un and clearly I’m not the only one who thinks so as it’s part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group.

We clambered up to our room, admired the beautiful view and cosied up in our room, ready for a day of exploring the next day!

I couldn’t resist these toiletries, I was very impressed right from the start!

But, I’ll tell you all about that beautiful hotel in another post!
