Somehow, each morning we managed to pull ourselves out of the beautiful bed in our villa at Azulik Eco Resort Tulum and wanted to explore the entire hotel, from every treetop to the beach!
It’s not just the rooms that are made from natural fibres – the whole hotel is made from locally sourced materials, built around a cenote and the gorgeous water trails. Which all in all makes for a very peaceful, serene atmosphere.
After you walk into the reception area, away from the road and into the hidden oasis that is Azulik, you walk up a bridge, over the first water way and underneath KIN TOH, and those nets (which we visited almost every night for a pre-dinner drink!)
The no electricity policy extends throughout the hotel, so you every walkway is covered with little candle lit lanterns.
As you look up you see the beach front villas, with their amazing rooftops, poking out the treetops of the jungle. I loved that throughout the hotel there was this beautiful contrast between the jungle and the water, the luxury and the rustic, restoring yourself and indulging yourself.
Every rooftop in the whole hotel is almost like a piece of art, with the beautiful angles, the mix of colours and the rustic edges…
With some areas that even have hanging seats for you to rock yourself to sleep in for an afternoon nap!
Not being able to get away from that beach view, I woke up in the mornings, sat on the hanging bed and watched the sunrise, eager to get my toes in the sand! So I’d pop down when Andy was awake and scope out some sun loungers for the day. And get the order in for that first fresh coconut of the day!
With sun beds and loungers as pretty as the rest of the hotel, the beach area had the same unassuming chic feeling that I’d come to know and love in Tulum. This beach bed was as comfortable as it was beautiful, and you’d often see people having a long, lazy lunch or an afternoon snooze here. With enough spots for you to be able to dot between the shade and the sun, there’s a little spot for everyone here.
If you’ve booked the Honeymoon Suite, you’ll have your own private staircase to the beach, meaning you don’t have to waste a single second getting your sunbed of choice ready! That is, if you don’t want to stay on your hanging bed or nets and admire the view from there.
No matter what time of day you reach the beach (as Azulik Eco Resort Tulum very much encourages a lazy morning policy!), the waves will be waiting for you, lapping on the sandy beach… I loved being there early, and having the whole beach to myself
With little details all over the place, you can easily sense that this beach is something special…
Especially when you can pick your own coconut any time of day!
With the ideal of never having to go too far to get a drink or something to eat, there’s a beach bar, complete with swings to swing on whilst you wait!
But for me, I preferred to sit right here and watch the Caribbean ocean…
And with a towel exchange point at the entrance to the beach, even if you’ve forgotten your beach towels from your room you can pick some more up. There might not be showers in your room, but there is a shower at the beach to make sure you’re not carrying excess sand with you all the time!
All topped off with an eco-chic beach vibe, it makes the perfect place to kick back, spend a day with a beer, a cocktail and some delicious nachos.
And with a view like that, I’d be amazed if you didn’t agree!
Away from the beach, climb up into the jungle tops to get to your villa, the spa, or just explore…
Along winding paths, surrounded by trees, lamps to guide you, and natural hand rails to steady you..
Half way between our villa and the main entrance, you overlook Cenote Bar, one of the hotel restaurants. Cenote Bar is the perfect place to grab breakfast and start your day with a healthy meal or a smoothie surrounded by the hotel’s herb garden! At lunch time the restaurant serves a menu which is vegan only, and at night it becomes the cutest little Thai restaurant.
If you can manage to walk by without ordering a smoothie, you’ll soon find yourself down from the treetops, among the foliage and nearly at the spa reception. Every morning there is a complimentary group yoga class, which is just the best way to start your day at Azulik. Sit on the swings in the spa as you wait for your fellow yogis to join you, and then wander through the jungle, glimpsing the water paths and ocean beyond, as you come to the Azulik dome for your morning practice.
As much as I loved the view of the ocean, I think my favourite view in the hotel was from the walkway, over the jungle to Kin Toh. There was something about the colours, the different textures and the sky beyond that made this a most magical place to be.
To say I didn’t want to leave is more than a small understatement! I loved waking up with my yoga practice, especially in somewhere as special as the Azulik Dome. The Dome is designed with Sacred Geometry in mind, meaning there’sa circle in the ceiling supported by 6 other circles. This gives the dome a special ambience that helps with the flow of positive energy for every yoga practice, lecture, meeting and meditation class.
This hotel really does help you to relax, to heal from the inside out.
As you get closer to the ‘real world’ on the outside, you walk up one last bridge and you’re in reception. This will be your first glimpse of Azulik Eco Resort & Spa, and your last. It’s somewhere to come to meet your local host, to hear about Mystikal Wanders, the hotel’s exclusive and private excursion service. Whether you’d like to visit Chichen Itza or experience a cenote, they will happily organise whatever you would like.
And if you dare to leave, there are bikes you can hire to cycle to cenotes, too!
You really can’t go to Tulum without experiencing this magical place.
Because when your entrance is like this, and you feel like you’re walking into your own private world, what more could you want?
