There’s something fairytale like about Paris… Something mesmerizing about being able to see La Tour Eiffel or La Sacre Coeur from virtually no matter where you are in this beautiful city. That’s just what mum and I fell in love with on our most recent trip to Paris when we visited the Galeries Lafayette Rooftop Terrace for lunch.
We were there for 5 days and I can’t wait to share everything about our trip; it was one of my favourite trips to Paris, which is saying something since I’ve lost count of the times we’ve been in the city. August in Paris is one of my favourite times to visit; it’s quiet and sleepy as the locals generally leave for their annual holidays, but it does mean you can visit the sites – and the sales! – when they’re relatively quiet.
After a hot morning of shopping, we wanted somewhere with a view – and somewhere where we didn’t have to travel far to get back to the shops! The Galleries Lafayette rooftop terrace was just the place. We settle down under the cool canape to order a couple of light dishes to share.
The first of which was this delicious charcuterie and Mediterranean inspired platter, with delicious tapenade, thin cured meats and a light, fresh salad.
Never being one to say no to one of my favourite cheeses, that I actually discovered at Pulia in London, I insisted that we ordered the buratta and heirloom tomato salad.
If you’ve not had buratta before, you should be putting it at the top of your to try list! A light, creamy, almost melt in the middle cheese, it’s something else. On this occasion it was served with fresh heirloom tomatoes, a little onion and a dressing of pesto.
And it was as moreish as it was beautiful!
I’m not sure about you, but on hot summer days in Paris, I don’t tend to want something overly heavy and so two light salads or platters to share is usually just what we wanted. The rest of the menu is based on the same summer feel, with what we thought were perfect summer lunch options.
Served with a crisp glass of rosé, I’m not sure there was a better way to celebrate our purchases from that morning!
If you’re not familiar with Paris, Galeries Lafayette is one of the biggest department stores in the land. It has every designer and brand you can think of, from high street to haute couture – it’s a fabulous place to shop, no matter what you’re looking for. With a store dedicated to womenswear, one to menswear and one for the home, I’m fairly sure you’ll find what you need!
Galeries Lafayette rooftop terrace is the perfect place to relax and get away from the shopping craziness, and to remember that you’re in one of the most beautiful cities.
After our lunch we stopped to admire the view; and what a view it was…
L’Opéra, the most magnificent homage to music…
One of the things I love about Paris is that so many of the buildings are beautiful, even the shops are pretty…
And doesn’t the perfect summers day call for the perfect summer dress? I found this gem from House of Fraser and have been wearing it all summer!
Oh Paris, I miss you already!
My dress was a gift from House of Fraser.
