Healthy Breakfast Smoothie

When it comes to summer I’m much less interested in having a big breakfast and usually opt for a smoothie instead of my usual cereal. I can hear you already: “there’s no way a smoothie will keep me full until lunch“- well, there is. Honestly!

And the best bit? You can change it daily – and very easily – to suit what’s in your fridge and whatever you fancy having that day! I’m giving you my basic recipe, but you can add or subtract anything you like.
You’ll need:
  • 300ml semi-skimmed milk
  • A handful of strawberries (about 6/7)
  • A big ol’ handful of blueberries
  • A teaspoon of local honey (a real lifesaver if you’re a hayfever sufferer like I am (I actually just sneeze when typing this…))
  • 2 tbsp. rolled porridge oats
  • Half a peach or nectarine 

Pop all of your fruit into your blender or smoothie maker. Blenders are fine, but a smoothie maker has a very handy little tap. 

Then put your oats in. These will really help to fill you up and thicken your smoothie.

Pour in your milk.

And your honey. Hayfever sufferers listen up: this works almost like an injection – you take a little of the honey every day and it’s supposed to reduce your symptoms. I’m suffering really badly at the moment so I’m all over the honey! It also gives a great little sweet taste to your smoothie, and you get to feel good about yourself by buying local!

Whizz it all up until it’s all mixed together and is fairly smooth.

Pour it into a to go cup or a tall glass.

And serve with a side of sunshine!

Perfect if you’re on the go and need a quick fix in the morning, with major brownie points for it being oh so healthy!

Whizz one up and let me know what you think! If I want to mix it up I might add blackberries, raspberries or even change the milk for orange juice – it really is such a versatile recipe.
