The eclairs are made by pastry chef Joakim Prat, who has previously worked at Michelin star restaurants, and oh my goodness, they are insanely good. In fact, I’d go as far as saying they’re actually better than my old local patisserie: high praise indeed!
They come in an array of glorious flavours – so when it came to choosing, it was a very tough choice to make. In the end, I asked for recommendations and boy oh boy, did Jeremie give me some good recommendations.
A little tip, Helena and I visited in the afternoon, so we didn’t get a full selection as even though the shop is new, they sell out every day! Incredible, eh? So when you go, try and head down in the morning.
How gorgeous are they?! Too good to eat…almost.
And it’s not just eclairs, they sell the most gorgeous choux, which also come in a incredible variety of flavours. We opted for a blackberry one which was utterly delcious.
The pastry in a choux is of a slightly different texture to an eclair as it’s covered in a light wash before it’s baked.
Okay, so I said our timing wasn’t the best in terms of picking eclair flavours, but these delicious chouquettes were just out of the oven as we arrived. They were still steaming hot and utterly glorious.
They were so light and really delicious, and the fact that they were still warm made them even better. Maître Choux bake throughout the day, so you never need to worry about not having fresh patisseries.
As they don’t currently have any seating space in the shop, and since it was such a glorious day, Helena and I headed to the gardens outside the National History Museum to devour our gorgeous eclairs.
I had the lemon meringue eclair which well, was amazing. I’m usually a classic chocolate or coffee eclair kind of girl, but I loved the twist on the classic French eclair. The pasty was light, but crisp and the lemon meringue filling was perfect.
The pistachio eclair was just as divine, although I have to say it didn’t beat the lemon meringue.
Want to see a real live reaction to these eclairs? Real proof that they are this good? Well, I handed the camera to Helena as I took my first bite, and here’s exactly what happened!
Now that is a face of true enjoyment ^.
Once again, the filling was light, creamy and well, everything you would want from crème patissière, and the choux pastry was delicious! I’d never had one before but I’m definitely a convert!
If you’re looking for a little bit of France in London this summer, or even a delicious present for someone, Maître Choux have got you covered!
Our eclairs were complimentary, but all views are my own.
