Dinner at Le Q de Poule

Dad’s are some of the best people in the world, and so when mine said he was treating me and my flatmate to dinner to give us a break from studying, I pretty much squealed with joy! There’s a little restaurant round the corner from us that we’ve been desperate to try out, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

After a cheeky glass of mulled wine, and a short wander through the, now, very festive streets of Rennes (we’ve been desperate to see the Christmas lights on and this was our chance!) we arrived at Le Q de Poule. It’s a tiny little hole in the wall restaurant that we must have walked past a hundred times before we noticed it.

First things first, we ordered a bottle of wine over which we could have a good gossip!

And the lovely waiter brought us some nibbles, but they were too delicious! This bowl was almost finished by the time he took them away, oops…

The food here is all made by Mélanie, the chef, and the menu changes every day – it’s amazing, and so well priced. There are no paper menus, just big blackboards that the waiter brings to your table. That’s when you know the food is fresh! Every starter, main and dessert is the same price which is pretty cool if you ask me.

Okay, now for the food! I ordered oeuf cocotte, which was totally delicious. I wish I had taken a photo of the egg yolk, but I was far too excited by eating it to take a photograph. Oops.

My lovely flatmate had velouté which also looked incredible. Next time maybe!

Now for the real deal! We both ordered the house special, roast chicken with home fried chips. It sounds simple, but it was ideal: homely, tender, tasty and all around wonderful.

For girls who hadn’t had chips in months, these were just too good to be true!

There are a distinct lack of photos of the two of us together, we have no idea how, but we decided we had to rectify this, especially since the Christmas lights looked so pretty last night! After a few hilarious shots, we got one – at last, it’s the lovely photo you saw at the top. But everyone loves outtakes, so here you are!

I was wearing a Whistles dress that I bought in summer, but I’ve found some similar options for you!

//striped dress (on sale!)//chiffon insert dress//sapphire blue jersey dress (my fav!)//dress up dress down black dress//
//trench (similar)//suede ankle boots//

There’s something wonderful about simple, homecooked food. It doesn’t scream and shout about its fanciness, it just lets you enjoy it. Last night that was exactly what we needed.

We’ve made a resolution to try every restaurant on this road before we leave – so I’ll keep you up to date with where we try next!
