This month’s Travel Link-Up from Kelly, Emma, Rebecca and their guest host, Zoe is all about travel contrats – so I’m exploring luxury travel vs budget travel!

We’ve all been there – especially those of us who have been living off student loans for the past for years (I can’t wait to finally see a pay cheque!): do I travel in style or do I go for the budget option? Do I take one holiday and make it really luxurious and delightful, or do I go budget on two or three holidays?

I’m torn. Always. Kidding – I love luxury. Though Andy, well he’s a little more torn than I am. Luxury hotels are my thing: I adore them and love relaxing in them. But well, my travel companion is much happier to stay in a hostel as he (we) tend to spend most of our days exploring wherever it is that we happen to be.
Booking holidays is always about trying to find a balance between luxury and price friendly – and our upcoming trip to Croatia is no exception. I’ll be sharing our Croatia travel plans with you very soon so instead of boring you twice with those here’s a little round up of our lux and budget travels over the last few years.

Amsterdam: Budget Accommodation with some Luxury Living

Instead of staying a hotel, much as we both would have loved to, instead we stayed in a friend’s flat for the weekend. Well, when you have that option, does it make sense to spend a fortune on a hotel?
Instead of spending on a tour of this gorgeous city, we opted to do our own tour with Amsterdam Unguided, which is a much more cost friendly way of travelling.
And well, I couldn’t give up all of my luxury – especially when I was invited to review Ron Gastrobar

Exeter: Luxury Accommodation and Student Living

Well, it was my graduation… So I splashed out on a nice hotel for us – but that was about the extent of the luxury for that mini break. It was a strange clash to suddenly be living like students again!

Venice: Well, Venice is just expensive

No matter what you do in this gorgeous city, it’s going to be expensive! Well worth a visit though! And if you’re looking for a hotel recommendation, have a look here

Sri Lanka: A Real Mix of Lux and Budget

Whilst we did stay in some gorgeous hotels, such as Jetwing Beach and Deco on 44, the  majority of the time we were more than content to stay in guest houses. My friends genuinely didn’t believe I could do it! A little harsh I thought..

Prague: Lux Accommodation and Budget Living

Prague was in the pre-blog days and my photos aren’t good enough to share really, so that’s why you’d be forgiven for not knowing that I’d ever visited! We went a few years ago in Winter and good LORD was it cold. I took Andy as a Christmas present and managed to find a really great deal on a 4* hotel in the centre of the city. It wasn’t anything spectacular but for two students, it was luxury then!
How do you prefer to travel – lux or budget?
